Before billionaire investor Warren Buffett takes the stage at Berkshire Hathaway's annual meeting on Saturday, investors may want to scoop up some of his stock, according to CFRA. "CFRA believes Berkshire Class B shares are undervalued versus historical averages, and we expect improved claim trends at GEICO and strong reinsurance results will provide the shares with a catalyst for continued outperformance," analyst Catherine Seifert wrote in a note Thursday. BRK.B 1Y mountain Berkshire Hathaway year to date Her $472 price target on class B shares suggest nearly 18% upside from Thursday's close. The meeting in Omaha, Nebraska, has been dubbed "Woodstock for Capitalists" thanks to the tens of thousands of investors who flock to hear Buffett speak. During the Q & A session, Seifert expects topics to include succession planning, given Charlie Munger's recent passing and Buffett's age, and its strategies on Geico, energy and acquisition.

Liselotte Sabroe | AFP | Getty ImagesWegovy obesity drug maker Novo Nordisk surpassed Tesla in market value, after fresh early trial data showed positive results for its new experimental weight loss pill. Novo Nordisk is now the 12th most valuable company in the world, with a market cap of $604 billion — ahead of Tesla's $569 billion, according to FactSet data. 8The uptick of Thursday extends a months-long rally for Novo Nordisk, as excitement grows around weight loss drugs and their potential wider applications. The early amycretin data marks a fresh milestone for Novo Nordisk, potentially offering a more effective and less intrusive alternative to its already widely successful injection-based Wegovy and Ozempic drugs. Wegovy showed weight loss of 6% in a 12-week trial, while Ozempic is a diabetes treatment.

Just last week the S&P 500 hit a new all-time high and notched its best showing in a year. But this nearly unprecedented surge in the markets is sparking some concern over what’s driving the rally and whether it can continue. The S&P 500 and Dow last week each reached record levels after blockbuster earnings from the chipmaker set off a broad market rally. The S&P 500 is up more than 6% for the year, but when you equally weigh all of the stocks in the index, it’s up just 2.5%. Last year, the S&P 500 rose by 24.2%, but the equally-weighted index was up by just 11.6%.

New York CNN —Berkshire Hathaway neared a $1 trillion market valuation Monday after a record-breaking year, but CEO Warren Buffett warned in his annual letter to investors that more skyrocketing performances are likely a thing of the past. Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.B) saw its shares jump nearly 2%, to $429, on Monday morning after closing with a market cap of $905 billion on Friday. Only a handful of companies worldwide has ever reached the $1 trillion milestone, among them tech giants Amazon, Apple and Microsoft. Berkshire has about $167.6 billion in cash and equivalents, breaking last quarter’s record-high $157.2 billion. For the year, operating earnings rose to $37.3 billion, after setting a record of $30.8 billion in 2022.

Wall Street returned to its winning ways this week — and Nvidia 's blowout earnings report Wednesday night was a big reason why. Twenty-six of our 32 portfolio stocks have delivered their results this earnings season (we didn't own Abbott Labs at the time of its report). It was a muted week for macroeconomic data, but we did get a slightly better-than-expected January existing home sales report on Thursday. In the week ahead, two more Club names are set to report earnings before a market-moving economic update arrives Thursday morning. The two other reports of note are the January new home sales report on Monday and ISM Manufacturing report on Friday.

Tuesday's inflation data sent the broader market reeling, making stable stocks more attractive for investors worried about further losses. Because of this, CNBC Pro screened for low-volatility, fortress-like names that can perform well if the drawdown continues. She pointed to growth of a media business as something that could help Costco win market share and create a better margin profile. While more than three out of every five analysts polled by FactSet has a buy rating on the stock, the typical price target reflects shares pulling back by 1.5%. The last few breakout attempts in late 2023 failed to attract enough interested buyers to push beyond the $360-$370 zone. The 31-year market veteran has achieved enviable results since the start of 2005 while running the BNY Mellon Dynamic Value Fund (DAGVX) alongside co-manager Brian Ferguson. How to invest — and common mistakes to avoidLike all value fund managers, Bailer refuses to overpay for stocks — regardless of how enticing their businesses look. "It's a philosophy that's based on looking for stocks with great valuations, but not stopping with great valuations," Bailer said. Companies in the BNY Mellon Dynamic Value Fund must have both quality fundamentals and improving business momentum, Bailer said. The six largest stocks in the BNY Mellon Dynamic Value Fund were in one of two sectors, as of September 30: financials and healthcare.

Have a concentrated portfolioHaving a concentrated portfolio means investing in a relatively small number of stocks as opposed to a larger number for the sake of diversity. Buy quality stocksSucceeding with a concentrated portfolio relies on one thing: buying quality stocks. A quality stock is a company that's able to consistently post profits and returns on capital. Apple and Alphabet would be considered consensus quality stocks, and Munger is well known for his fondness of shares of Coca-Cola, another stock traditionally classified as quality. Buy stocks with good management teamsOne element of a company that makes it "quality" is its management team.

Companies with healthy balance sheets and access to low or no-cost funding are likely to outperform. Ferguson is a fund manager for the BNY Mellon Dynamic Value Fund at Newton Investment Management. Across all sectors, Ferguson believes that companies with strong balance sheets and good liquidity will widely outperform their peers, especially in the face of a looming economic slowdown. Strong balance sheets in particular can help businesses endure turbulent times, since companies aren't forced to issue — and eventually pay back — a lot of high-cost debt. Likewise, Ferguson is currently bullish on the energy sector due to its incredibly strong balance sheets and focus on return of capital versus growth.
The Voya Corporate Leaders Trust Fund hasn't actively changed its strategy or holdings since 1935. Nearly a century after its inception, the Voya Corporate Leaders Trust Fund (LEXCX) is still going strong. That's why Client Portfolio Manager Christina Bargeron believes that the Voya Corporate Leaders Trust Fund was an unprecedented investment vehicle at its time — the "first truly passive offering" available to investors. "It's almost like taking a bet on your outlook for Union Pacific and energy," Bargeron explained. But going forward, Voya has no plans at all to change the guidelines for the Corporate Leaders Trust Fund.
Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.b) – Berkshire Hathaway gained 1.5% in premarket trading after Warren Buffett's firm reported better-than-expected earnings, with revenue also topping Street forecasts. Meta Platforms (META) – Meta added 2.6% in the premarket after The Wall Street Journal reported that the Facebook parent was preparing to announce large-scale layoffs this week. Apple (AAPL) – Apple shares slid 1.8% in the premarket after it said Covid-19 restrictions are hindering iPhone production at the Foxconn factory in China. Yamana Gold (AUY) – Yamana Gold lost 2.7% in the premarket after Gold Fields (GFI) said it would not change the terms of its takeover deal with Yamana. Ryanair (RYAAY) – The airline's stock gained 6.2% in premarket trading after it reported its largest-ever profit for the first half of the year.
The Voya Corporate Leaders Trust Fund is the "ultimate buy and hold," says manager Christina Bargeron. The fund hasn't changed its strategy since 1935 — yet it's still outperforming 94% of competitors. Christina Bargeron may be the client portfolio manager of the Voya Corporate Leaders Trust Fund, but she won't take credit for its outrageous outperformance this year. So far this year, the Voya Corporate Leaders Trust Fund is down just 2%, compared to the average 9% decline among other funds in its category. The widespread Depression-induced distrust of banks also ensured that no financial firms made their way into the Voya Corporate Leaders Trust Fund.
CarMax (KMX) – CarMax shares slumped 12.1% in premarket trading after the auto retailer missed estimates on both the top and bottom lines for its latest quarter. Bed Bath & Beyond (BBBY) – The housewares retailer posted a wider-than-expected quarterly loss and sales that fell short of consensus. MillerKnoll (MLKN) – MillerKnoll fell 7.3% in the premarket after its quarterly profit beat analyst estimates, although revenue fell short. Jefferies Financial (JEF) – Jefferies shares rose 1.6% in premarket action after posting a better-than-expected quarterly profit. The purchases came after Occidental shares lost about 20% of their value in less than a month.
